Chinatown & Streeterville

Two new etchings of iconic neighborhoods in Chicago

Chinatown Chicago

Aquatint Etching frames to 12" x 16"
Wentworth Avenue south of the historic entrance at 22nd Street

The Chinatown neighborhood in Chicago is located in the Armour Square community area at Cermak and Wentworth Avenues and is a wonderful example of an ethnic-Chinese neighborhood. By 1869, approximately 600 Chinese immigrants had settled along Clark Street between Van Buren and Harrison Streets in Chicago's Loop. The present Chicago Chinatown formed around 1912 as Chinese settlers moved steadily south from the Loop.

Tall Grass Art Association

Tall Grass Art Association has a wonderful show that includes the work of many Chicago area artists.  This association is truly a major contributor to art in Chicago and Park Forest.

Festival of Arts will be on display thru September 19, 2016.

Included in this show is my newest etching,

"The Chicago Theater on State Street".

Historic Landmark Buildings Reappear as Hotels

360 North Michigan Avenue
Chicago
Plate No. 67
Frames to 16" x 11"

The London House Hotel at Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive was formally known as The London Guarantee & Accident Co.  Sitting at the site where Fort Dearborn once stood, built in 1923 with a Beaux Arts Tower and a trapezoid shaped footprint, the building was once home to the fabled London House Jazz Club. A most recent owner was Crane Communication, who sold it for development in 2013.

The 168 North Michigan Avenue building was designed and built by architects Marshall and Fox in 1916.  It was the Federal Life Building for many years. As shown in each of these etchings, the building with the terra cotta façade on the left will become part of a high-design lifestyle hotel with 200 rooms. Opening is scheduled in early 2018. The building on the right is the Smurfit Stone building.  Looking eastward, the center building is the Prudential Plaza Building across Michigan Avenue.
