54th Annual Cooks' Tour sponsored by The Auxiliary of the Woman's Board of Rush University Medical Center

 

Save the date for September 17, 2025 for the RUSH Hospital Auxiliary Cooks' Tour

Cooks' Tour is a home design and style celebration established in 1971 as a kitchen tour and has evolved over the 54 years to include the full home, gardens and grounds of some of the most inspiring homes along the North Shore. Cooks' Tour takes place on the 3rd Wednesday every September and opens the doors to 4 - 5 homes for community members, leading Chicago-area designers, architects, builders, landscape architects and home experience enthusiasts. The Auxiliary of the Woman's Board works behind the scenes with design teams, florists and home design retailers to emphasize and showcase exceptional design and decor throughout each home on the day of the tour. Guests have an opportunity to participate in a raffle of luxury items and local downtown Winnetka french-bistro favorite, Pomeroy, opens exclusively for a post-tour luncheon to cap the perfect day. All proceeds from the Annual Cooks' Tour support The Woman's Board Endowed Fund for Research and Clinical Trials at Rush University Medical Center. The endowed fund will propel groundbreaking medical research along the continuum, including innovative, early stage pilot research, promising clinical trials to test breakthrough therapies, and large scale studies to set new standards for care.

The event is  9:30 am-1:30 pm

December 2022 What's Happening? Lemme tell ya

There are two locations for the display and sale of my art.  

My first Pop-Up Shop in Evanston will open Thursday, December 1 at noon and run until December 31. December Hours are scheduled for Tuesday - Saturday, 11am to 5 pm and Sunday 12 noon to 4pm

The next location that will display my art of the city is The International Small Print Show at the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative in Lincoln Square.  This annual event is celebrating the 37th year hosting fine small etchings and print art from artists from all over the world.

My art  includes Prints of Chicago and Note Cards all priced to sell.

CPC is located at 4912 North Western Avenue  and is open daily noon-5 pm until Christmas.

This year Chicago celebrates the One Hundred Year Birthdays  for two iconic city sites

The famed Chicago Theater on State Street celebrates its 100th Birthday 2021

          The Chicago Theater, originally known as the Balaban and Katz Chicago Theater, is a landmark theater located on North State Street in the Loop area of Chicago.  Built in 1921, the Chicago Theater was the flagship for Balaban and Katz.  Currently Madison Square Garden, Inc. owns the theater.

The Wrigley Building is on the Chicago River at Michigan Avenue and is 100 this year.

When ground was broken for the Wrigley Building in 1920, there were no major office buildings north of the Chicago River. The Michigan Avenue Bridge now the Du Sable Bridge, which spans the river just south of the building, was still under construction. 

The land was selected by chewing gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr. for the headquarters of the company. The building was designed by the architectural firm of Graham, Anderson Probst, and White using the shape of the Giralda tower of Seville Cathedral combined with French Renaissance details.

The south tower was completed in September 1921 and the north tower in May 1924. 

The two towers are of differing heights, with the south tower rising to 30 stores and the north tower to 21 stories. The building is clad in six shades of white glazed terra-cotta.

*Santiago Calatrava (born in 1951) is a Spanish architect, structural engineer, sculptor, and painter.

The sculpture Constellation 2019-2020 is in the park that borders the Chicago River at 444 West Lake Street.

We had a wonderful trip to Austin and especially appreciated The Broken Spoke and the historic Paramount Theatre

The City Restored

Sweet Home.  Chicago

The city has its roots in the soil of the American Prairie.  But the people who came here speak the world’s languages.  The city grew to the heavens in the 20^th century but kept its feet on the ground.  It’s still a city that works: brash, gritty, but filled with beauty that can take your breath away.  It is as rough as a steelworker’s hands and as soft as a spring breeze off Lake Michigan, sweetening every street corner.

Regeneration is the theme for this bas relief at the Michigan Avenue bridge-tender.

This bas relief from 1924 called "Regeneration" is dedicated to the women and men that brought the city back from the great fire. 

This art by James Earl Fraser and Henry Hering adorns the river's bridge-tender on the southeast side of the DuSable bridge at Wacker Drive and Michigan Avenue.

Cloud Gate, a public sculpture by Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor, is the centerpiece of AT&T Plaza in Millennium Park.  It was built in 2004-2006.

The Newberry Library in Washington Square Park was established in 1887 as an independent research library specializing in the humanities.

Riverside Canyons pictures the Chicago River splitting the developing Wacker Drive buildings south along the river.
