A Print from the Serio Collection "Chicago from Within"

My newest etching is from the collection of urban scenes called Chicago from Within by the photographer Stephen Serio. Steve has been able to create images of Chicago that I admire and that inspire me to create prints that reflect the tone of Chicago.

A sunny morning in Daley Plaza  depicts a traveler moving through this city intersection with the help of a green light and the surrounding building's reflected light.

Aquatint etching is 10" x  9"
with hand coloring

The vantage points chosen – street level and the top levels of parking garages throughout Chicago’s “Loop” – enabled for a deconstruction of the cityscape, focusing on details and cross-sections, some uniquely Chicago, and others exhibiting a universal “urban-ness.”  The familiar views of street and skyline have been traded for the “mid-section” of the city, inviting the viewer to explore the world between the penthouse and the pothole.
